Welcome to the 2013 edition of the North Carolina School Report Cards.
The Report Cards are one of the state’s most comprehensive resources for
information about student achievement, class size, school safety, school technology,
and teacher quality at the school, district and state levels.
You will notice a few changes on this year’s Report Cards. The 2012-13 school
year was the first year we reported results using North Carolina’s
new READY accountability model. This model does not include school designations,
but it does still feature academic growth rates and the percentage of students who
scored proficient on state assessments.
The Report Cards also continue to feature high school graduation rates and
Annual Measurable Objectives (AMOs). These AMOs are calculated and reported under
the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) instead of the
“all or nothing” measure of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under
No Child Left Behind (NCLB). AMOs identify specific proficiency targets for
each student subgroup as opposed to one proficiency target that
all subgroups must meet.
With a new statewide Standard Course of Study, new assessments and a new
school accountability model in place, last school year was the beginning of
a new chapter in public education. Please use the data available here to
